Lab pe aati hai dua ban ke tamanna meri
Zindagi shamma ki soorat ho Khudaya meri
Door duniya ka mere dam se andhera ho jaye
Har jagah mere chamakne se ujala ho jaye
Ho mere dam se yunhi mere watan ki zeenat
Jis tarha phool se hoti hai chaman ki zeenat
Zindagi ho meri parwaane ki soorat ya Rab
Ilm ki shama se ho mujhko mohabbat ya Rab
Ho mera kaam ghareebon ki himayat karna
Dardmandon se za-eefon se mohabbat karna
Mere Allah! Buraee se bachana mujhko
Neik jo raah ho, us rah pe chalana mujhko.

From my lips, a prayer takes flight, carrying my ardent wish
My life may become a beacon, my God, burning brightly and tirelessly
May the world's darkness recede through the force of my illumination
And from my light, may brightness be conferred upon all
My life be an ornament of my homeland just as
The beauty of a garden is enhanced by the presence of flowers
May my life resemble that of a moth, my Lord
Imbue me with a love for the light of wisdom, my Lord
My calling shall be to uplift the downtrodden
To embrace the aggrieved, the fragile, with compassion
My God! Save me from malevolence
